The Golden Cross Program
China International Medical Foundation The Golden Cross Program, launched by the China International Medical Foundation in 2004, aims to stress public attention to life, health, its promotion and the building of a harmonious life.
Based on the concept of “Concern about Life and Serve for Life”, activities in the Golden Cross Program include promotion of life and health and provision of commonweal medical and health care channels and platforms for the general public to draw attention to life and health.

Working Concept: Building a Life- and Heath-Friendly Environment
Tasks: research, education, promotion, training, provision of services, exchange projects, assistance seeking, etc. to build an excellent life and health environment and society
The Golden Cross Program is one the commonweal development plans of the China International Medical Foundation. Chair of its Working Committee is Wu Jieping, Academician, President of the China International Foundation, former Vice Chair of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Honorary President of the Chinese Medical Association. The thirty-nine members of the Working Committee are well-known experts, academicians, executive council members of the Chinese Medical Association, and representatives of the Ministry of Health, the State Administration of Drugs and Foods and industrial companies.

Goals of the Golden Cross Program
To improve conditions of the medical and health care providers in the poor areas and raise the professional levels of the grassroots medial and health workers.
To carry out international and regional medical and health care exchange and cooperative programs, and to provide a platform of opportunities and conditions for medical and health care researchers.
To organize medical and health care assistance projects in the poor areas for the poor populations to recover from illnesses.
To provide financial support for poor students and the unemployed and laid-out personnel for occupational trainings and job opportunities to alleviate poverty.
Donation Categories:
Golden Cross Love Donation Box: For a donation in the sum of 300 yuan RMB, a Golden Cross Love Donation Box will be set up in the participating institutions for the general public to donate for the underprivileged.
Golden Cross Medical and Health Care Donation Box: For a donation in the sum of 500 yuan RMB, a Golden Cross Medical and Health Care Donation Box will be named after the donor and be set up in a rural secondary or primary school for the purchase of stethoscopes, thermometers, and drugs for traumas, diarrhea, common colds, etc.
Golden Cross Science Corner: For a donation in the sum of 1,000 yuan RMB, a Golden Cross Science Corner named after the donor will be set up in a rural secondary or primary school to display books and other publications on life and health related knowledge.
Golden Cross Rural Medical Station: For a donation in the sum of 30,000 yuan RMB, a Golden Cross Medical Station named after the donor will be set up in a rural area equipped with basic medical testing devices like sphygmomanometers, medicines for common diseases, etc.
Golden Cross Science Window: For a donation in the sum of 50,000 yuan RMB, a Golden Cross Science Window named after the donor will be set up in a participating university or college to promote life, health, medical and drug safety knowledge.
Golden Cross Community Medical Station: For a 150,000 yuan RMB, a Golden Cross Community Medical Station named after the donor will be set up in the urban community equipped with relevant medical instruments and medicines.
Golden Cross Special Funds:
A donation in the sum of 2,000 yuan RMB: to support a medical worker from a poverty-stricken area for a half year professional and occupational training.
A donation in the sum of 5,000 yuan RMB: to support a medical worker from a poverty-stricken area for professional refreshing studies for a year.
A donation in the sum of 500,000 yuan RMB: to have a Golden Cross Village and Township Medical Station named after the donor established. Such a station will have the following responsibilities: to promote the Golden Cross Program and the donor, to provide training for no less than 30 local medical workers from the poverty-stricken areas, to provide free physical examinations for no less than 50 members of the poorest families and families fully supported by the government, etc.
A donation in the sum of 1 million yuan RMB: to have a county-level Golden Cross Medical Training Center named after the donor established. Such a center will have the following responsibilities: to promote the Golden Cross Program and the donor, to provide training for no less than 50 local medical workers from the poverty-stricken areas, to provide free physical examinations for no less than 100 members of the poorest families and families fully supported by the government, etc.
A donation in the sum of 5 million yuan RMB: to have a city-level Golden Cross Hospital named after the donor established. Such a hospital will have the following responsibilities: to promote the Golden Cross Program and the donor, to provide assistance in training for no less than 100 local medical workers from the poverty-stricken areas, to provide free physical examinations for no less than 500 members of the poorest families and families fully supported by the government, to offer preferential prices for or free hospitalizations and operations for 100 members of the poorest families and families fully supported by the government in the local areas. |
